                           The ant and the grasshopper

Narrator 1-Last summer the ant was working all day, while the grasshopper was singing and playing the violin. He was relaxing from the heat of the sun under the big tree.

Grasshopper-ant, why  do you work all day long? Come, sit down here and sing with me.

Ant-I am gathering food for the winter, because in winter there is nothing in the field. It will be cold. I don’t want to stay hungry. You must do the same too.

Grasshopper-Oh, my dear ant. Don’t worry about the winter. There is a lot of food now. Come . Let’s sing and dance.

Narrator 2-winter came. Ant had everything at home. His house was full of food. grasshopper had no food. He was cold and hungry.. He went to the ant.

Grasshopper-Hello my friend. I’ll sing for you if you give me something to eat. I m hungry

Ant- All summer I was working hard to gather food. You were singing and playing violin all the time. Now go away you lazy da silly grasshopper.

Grasshopper-give me something, give me something

Ant-go away or I’ll call the police

(grasshopper runs into ant’s house. Grabs a sack full of wheat and runs away. The ant goes to the police station and asks for help)

Ant-please help me, the grasshopper took my supply, I have nothing to eat now. help

Policeman-Don’t worry, everything will be ok. Now I’ll go and arrest the grasshopper.

(policeman goes and arrests the grasshopper.)

Guard-All rise.

Judge 1-thank you-Today we are discussing the case number 158. Act vs grasshopper. please tell us what happened.

Lawyer 1-thank you your honour , my client is the ant. He is very upset. He worked all summer to have food for winter and this insect made mess in his house and grabbed food.

Lawyer 2-No, no my client is a very talented musician. Maybe he doesn’t work all day , but singing is a good job too. It’s nice to listen to him too. Don’t you agree with me?

Judge 2-thank you. Do you have a witness?

Lawyer 1- ye, your honour. My witness is  my client’s wife Mrs ant.

Mrs. Ant-hello your honour

Guard-please sit down, raise your right hand, put your left hand on the bible and swear to say truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Mrs. Ant-I swear by almighty god to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Lawyer 1-please tell the court what you saw

Mrs. Ant-That  day I was in my kitchen . I was cooking soup for my family. Suddenly I heard somebody knocked on the door. My husband opened the door. It was a grasshopper. He wanted food, because he was hungry. They had an argument, so the grasshopper ran inside, broke my favourite dishes and took our food. I was so frightened that I couldn’t sleep all night.

Judge 3-did you write everything?

Stenographer-yes, your honour.

Grasshopper-Lier,Lier, It’s not true. I am not a criminal. I just wanted food, because I was very hungry.oh, no I am not guilty.

Mother-My poor son. You monsters, what are you doing? My son is a brilliant singer. His song are so popular. That’s why he has many enemies.you all want to kill him. My  poor son

Judje 3- quet, quiet. Guard , take her out of the courtroom .

Lawyer 2-your honour I have a witness too. Please come butterfly.

Butterfly-hello your honour,

Lawyer 2- what can you say about grasshopper?

Butterfly-oh, he is so talented and kind. Everybody loves him. His songs are so beautiful.He is going to hold a concert in our concert hall. Please let him out.

Lawyer 2-thank you. No more questions. Your honour as you see my client is a very kind person. He couldn’t do this vandalism.

Lawyer 1-wait a moment. I have one more witness. L call bee. Com in please.

Bee-I swear by almighty god to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

Lawyer 1-bee please tell the court where you were last summer on 25 of august at 9 o ‘clock in the evening?

Bee-My house is next to ant’s house. We are neighbours. I can say that ant’s family is very hardworking. They work all day all summer .That day I was at home in my garden. I saw a grasshopper. He was talking to ant.

Lawyer 2 –Did you her what they talk about?

Bee-no, they were talking in a low voice

Lawyer 1-ok, what happened next?

Bee-I went in, but soon I heard noise and I ran out

Lawyer 1- what did you see?

Bee-I saw the grasshopper. He was carrying a sack of wheat and the ant and his wife were crying.

Lawyer 1-thank you , no more questions. As you see all the witnesses prove that the grasshopper is guilty.

Lawyer 2- I hope you see that my client is an artist your verdict will be loyal.

Guard-are you ready to say the verdict?

Judge 1-guilty

Grasshopper-oh, no please.

Judje 3-juries decided that you are guilty. Your punishment will be working for a year in the wood.

Judge 2- take the prisoner-

Judge 1- case number 158 is closed. Thank you lawyers.

Narrator 3-Time passed. The grasshopper began working. He wasn’t very happy, but he had no choice. The court insisted on  working for people’s sake. Every day he had to wake up at 6 o’clock,clean the forest water flowers.

Narrator 4-once in a month he holds a charity concert for children. He helps homeless insects with food. He made friends with the ant and helped him with his job. Now they work together and gather food for winter

Ant-a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Grasshopper-It’s better an egg than a hen tomorrow.
